The Horror's One Hundreth Show!
The Horror! creeped its way onto the internet "airwaves" just over one year ago. Replaying those great old time radio horror stories from the 1930's to the 1970's, the show has become the most popular on RelicRadio.com, and served as the impetus for this site and the Vintage Horror Radio show. If you haven't checked it out yet, you're sure to like it! New shows are released each Wednesday and Saturday. This Wednesday, June 25, will mark the one hundreth show!
Vintage Horror Radio 16
More classic horror on this episode! We'll hear another dramatized version of an M.R. James story this time around. First published in More Ghost Stories in 1911, Casting The Runes was featured on Escape for their November 19, 1947 show. I apologize in advance for the audio quality on this Escape episode, but I cleaned it up the best I could! For more M.R. James check out the very first Vintage Horror Radio show.
Vintage Horror Radio 15
The long overdue episode 15 has arrived! On today's show we'll hear from Suspense and their version of the A.M. Burrage story The Waxwork. Suspense did three versions of this show, ours first aired March 1, 1959 and stars Herbert Marshall. Don't forget to check out Matt's article on this author for more information.
A.M. Burrage Article By Matt Cowan
Alfred McLelland Burrage was born in 1889, in Middlesex, England. His father and uncle were both successful writers, which may account for his early writing skill. He published his first story at the age of 15. He fought for his country during World War I, joining in 1917. He was evacuated in April of 1918, due to trench foot. Burrage wrote a book about his experiences in the war titled, War Is War (1930). He published it under the name ‘Ex-Private X’ because he said “were it otherwise I could not tell the truth about myself and others”. He used the pseudonym for some of his other works as well. He also published some young adult books under the name Frank Lelland. Some of his stories have been adapted for both television and radio. Probably his most famous tale ‘The Waxworks’ was adapted for the TV series Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1959). The radio show Suspense aired three versions of it, and The Price of Fear also adapted it, starring legendary actor Vincent Price. His short story ‘Playmates’ was adapted for the television show The Schaefer Century Theater in 1952, which featured the television debut of actress Natalie Wood. He died in 1956.
Updates
It's time for a redesign! Over the next few days I'll be changing the look here at VintageHorror.com. I haven't liked the white text on black background look for sometime, and though the dark colors might fit the theme, I'll be changing to a white background soon.
I hope to have another episode of Vintage Horror Radio up soon, and plan to make some changes to that podcast as well. This site has been on the back burner for a bit, but soon I'll be spending more time here.
Look for more old time horror radio, more interesting articles on horror's past, and just more in general!
Vintage Horror Radio 14
On this show we revisit one of the greats. Frankenstein was first published anonymously in 1818, Mary Shelley finally took credit on the revised third edition, published in 1831. We'll hear an old time radio version from Favorite Story that first aired December 13, 1947. There are many different versions of this story done by old time radio series, we'll probably hear more in the future.

The House On Haunted Hill starring Vincent Price, and directed by William Castle. This movie was released in 1959, and has been remade a few times including the 1999 version which is quite different than the original, but good for a Sunday afternoon light viewing!
