Disbanding The Horde
The Vintage Horror Horde community at vintagehorror.ning.com will be closing down soon. Ning, the company that hosts the site, will begin charging monthly for their service and since that site is very rarely used, I've decided to shutter the windows and lock the doors.
Any information, pictures, etc. you've uploaded to that site will be deleted very soon! If there is something there you don't have a copy of, please grab one as soon as possible.
The Vintage Horror Horde
The new forum replacement site is up and running. Though it's capable of far more than just a forum, feel free to sign up and use it however you choose. Users have access to the forum, thier own blog, and photo and video posting as well. I hope you'll enjoy the new features!
Forum Is Closing...Replacement Coming Soon!
I've decided to go a different route as regards the forum software. Every day I've been deleting dozens of spam/inactive/not real "users" signing up to the site, and on occasion posts that don't belong there. I want to make the switch now before we get any more real users, and I'd like to make the switch to something that allows for more than just a forum. It will also be something that is hosted elsewhere so I don't have to keep updating software etc... That leaves more time to actually post something useful!
To the handful of real people who have signed up I apologize for changing things on you! I hope you'll make the move, and enjoy what is to come. I'll be posting soon with more details. Thanks,
Jim
Last Nights Upgrade
I had to do a bit of upgrading behind the scenes last night, which is why the site was unavailable for far too long. But here we are, all sparkling and new, not that you can see any of it! If you stumble across anything that doesn't work let me know.
Just a few words about Vintage Horror Radio while I've got you.... The coffin hasn't been nailed shut, but as you may have noticed VHR has been silent for quite some time. I do hope to bring you another show soon, but to be honest, it has been difficult finding suitable old time radio shows. There are still a few out there though, so I'll try to get another show up soon.
HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION AT VINTAGE HORROR
Halloween is my favorite holiday. It's the one time of year when the rest of the world becomes excited by ghost stories and that sort of thing that I love year around. So I want to do a few extra items here this month to celebrate. I should have an article about a vintage horror writer up soon and there are a few extras coming as well. My interview with horror artist Steve Gilberts kicked it off, and I plan to end the month by posting an original, previously unpublished short story of mine here. There may be another suprise for this month but that is still in the works, so stay tuned.
Happy Haunting,
Matt Cowan
Horror Artist Steve Gilberts Interview
At Gen Con a year ago I had the pleasure of meeting artist Steven Gilberts and his wife Becky. I noticed Steven’s artwork through the throng of people, and it drew me to their booth with its surreal creepiness. I ended up buying a print titled ‘Vacation Destination’ that sits on its perch in my office, glowering down at me while I write. It provides great inspiration. This year I went to visit and chat with them each day, and Steven graciously accepted my request for an interview.
Updates
It's time for a redesign! Over the next few days I'll be changing the look here at VintageHorror.com. I haven't liked the white text on black background look for sometime, and though the dark colors might fit the theme, I'll be changing to a white background soon.
I hope to have another episode of Vintage Horror Radio up soon, and plan to make some changes to that podcast as well. This site has been on the back burner for a bit, but soon I'll be spending more time here.
Look for more old time horror radio, more interesting articles on horror's past, and just more in general!
